December is a month to look forward to and to prepare for Christmas. With this in mind, I would like to give the following thoughts from history and Scripture about Jesus Christ. May the following few historical quotes show that our founding Fathers were not interested in a generic god, but the God of Scripture for they were willing to identify God with His Son, Jesus Christ.
John Quincy Adams, the 6th President of the United States, said, “In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity.” (Wallbuilders.com)
Samuel Adams, known as the “Father of the American Revolution”, expressed the following: “I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world…that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace.” (Wallbuilders.com)
Elias Boudinot, President of Congress during the American Revolution, encouraged the Congress by saying, “Let us enter on this important business under the idea that we are Christians on whom the eyes of the world are not turned…[L]et us earnestly call and beseech Him, for Christ’s sake, to preside in our councils…We can only depend on the all powerful influence of the Spirit of God, Whose Divine aid and assistance it becomes us as a Christian people most devoutly to implore. Therefore I move that some minister of the Gospel be requested to attend this Congress every morning…in order to open the meeting with prayer.” (Wallbuilders.com)
The following Scriptures show us that Jesus was, is, and always will be King! Matthew 2:2 tells us that wise men sought a king. According to Matthew 21:5, Luke 19:38, and John 12:13, Jesus rode into Jerusalem as a king: Jesus died as a King in John 18:37. In I Timothy 1:17 and 6:15, the Apostle Paul worshiped Jesus as King. Then Revelation 17:14 and 19:16 informs us that Christ will come back as conquering King!
I have stated history and scripture in regard to Jesus Christ. May we in North Carolina realize that this Christmas season is more than presents, trees, cards, lights, and festivities; it is a time to reflect upon Jesus Christ. May we in the Constitution Party, as well as the State, and the Country pledge again with conviction one of the mottos of the Revolutionary War: “There is no king, but King Jesus!”
