Whereas, the Constitution Party of North Carolina strongly supports religious freedom for people of all faiths and believes government should not respect any one religion over another, and
Whereas, Dr. Ron Baity pastor of Bearan Baptist Church was invited to offer the opening legislative prayer for the North Carolina House of Representatives on the week of May 31st to June 3rd of 2010, and
Whereas, Dr. Baity’s religious beliefs require him to pray in the name of Jesus, and
Whereas, the Clerk of the North Carolina House of Representatives rescinded Dr. Baity’s invitation to pray specifically due to his religious beliefs that requires him to pray in the name of Jesus in violation of freedom of religion, therefore be in it
Resolved, that the Constitution Party of North Carolina calls on the North Carolina House of Representatives to allow Dr. Ron Baity the right to offer the opening legislative prayer by the dictates of his own religion and end the practice of requesting guest chaplains to deliver nonsectarian prayers regardless of the individuals faith. The Constitution Party of North Carolina reaffirms its support for religious freedom for all as protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I Section 13 of the North Carolina State Constitution. The Constitution Party of North Carolina strongly believes that the people should have the right to freely exercise their religion as they see fit and calls on all levels of government to cease silencing its citizen’s religious freedom in the name of political correctness.
